Software Engineer, Applied AI
Member of Technical Staff
We're hiring a high-agency engineer to work directly with our founding team on AI red-teaming and safety infrastructure. You'll build systems that uncover frontier AI failures, tackling hard problems across AI, infrastructure, and applied research. You'll have the freedom to experiment, ownership over what you build, and the responsibility to ship.
We’d love for you to apply the way we’d build it: send a GET request here and follow what comes back. Email also works: just send your resume and a short paragraph about an AI project you’re proud of to careers@circuitbreakerlabs.ai. Whichever route you take, map your experience to the requirements below. And if you're missing something, that's OK! Call it out and show adjacent work that proves you can ramp quickly. We care about clarity, curiosity, and the ability to learn aggressively.
PYTHON
Strong Python experience, including idiomatic modern typing: type hints, generics/TypeVar where appropriate, protocols, and well-modeled error handling.
Async Python
Experience with asynchronous Python: asyncio, async/await, concurrent I/O, cancellation, and resource lifecycle management.
REST and WebSocket APIs
Experience designing or consuming REST and WebSocket APIs.
PostgreSQL
Including schema design, query writing, migrations, and practical familiarity with connection pooling and production database workflows.
Rust
Including async Rust and Tokio. You should be comfortable working in a production CLI codebase, not only writing isolated Rust utilities.
Containers
Comfort working with containers, local development environments, CI, and cloud-deployed services.
Testing
Strong testing discipline, including unit/integration tests and the ability to make asynchronous and networked systems testable.
FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy 2.x async, and Alembic
Experience building developer-facing CLIs, especially with Clap, Reqwest, Tokio, WebSockets, terminal UIs, and structured error handling.
Experience integrating LLM APIs, model providers, speech systems, or other AI infrastructure
CI/CD and GitHub Actions
GCP, Cloud Run, Secret Manager, and workload identity federation
Infrastructure-as-code experience with OpenTofu/Terraform
Observability, structured logging, and production failure analysis
Nix or NixOS
Particularly flakes and reproducible development/build environments.
LiveKit/WebRTC, or audio-processing systems
Unless You Think the AI Category is Shrinking, Circuit Breaker Labs is Inevitable. Join Us.
We're a small team taking on a big problem. We move fast, care deeply about the details, and we're AI optimists. We believe AI can do extraordinary things, but only if people can trust it. We're building the infrastructure to make that possible. Read more about us in TechCrunch.
